May 2022 Activity: remote Corbetts and Munros on the mainland and Skye.

FVMC members, including the Bavarian Section, continued small group walking/scrambling/climbing activity throughout Scotland and on Skye.

First up on 04/05, AS && GG have a journey into the back of beyond today when they tackled the Corbett Beinn Mholach, NN 58733 65493 (841m) from Dalnaspidal on the A9. It’s a 25km round trip although there is only a bit more than 400m of ascent.

Above is Loch Garry on the long walk in.

Duinish bothy at the NE foot of Beinn Mholach.

By 21/05 LM, EM & AD had kept busy in the hills! Above is the camp at Bendronaig Lodge, NH 01356 38830, used by LM & AD as a base for climbing Bidein a' Choire Sheasgaich and Lurg Mhòr.

Approaching Bidein a' Choire Sheasgaich.

Following that Conival and Ben More Assynt. Above is the top of Conival.

LM & EM had a great week on Skye climbing some of the Cuillins, with only the In Pin remaining. Above LM on the Skye ridge with EM at the other end of the rope.

On 22/05 one of our Bavarian members KH joined BR for a series of walks. Above is KH looking W to the head of the Fee Burn on their way to Mayar and Driesh.

Looking back ENE to Glendoll Forest where the trees from the previous winter’s storm had been cleared from the paths.

A couple of days later they ascended Ben Vane from Inveruglas. Above looking E from the SE slope of Ben Vane over Loch Lomond, dominated by Ben Lomond, with lochs Arklet and Katrine in the far background.

From the same position looking N to the mighty Loch Sloy Dam completed in 1949. Ben Vane topped out with a nice scramble to the summit but unfortunately was not blessed with views. The following day saw Beinn Tulaichean under their boots, from Inverlochlarig.

In the latter part of that week KH was joined by her partner BV for a week of climbing/walking on Skye, Sutherland and the Cairngorms.

Finishing May saw BR & CS ascend Auchnafree Hill on 29/04. Here is CS & Harry The Dog with Ben Chonzie in the background.

…and also a surprising find at the cairn – a 3ft x 2ft x ¼” plate of steel commemorating an estate keeper’s favourite dog, Saoirse.
