Other FVMC activity in April was wide ranging, entailing; the ascent of two Munros at Drumochter Pass during one of the few decent days that month, a fabulous trip to Morocco for two of our members and their mates and another attempt by diehards at hills SSW of Peebles.
First up on 11/04, BR & KH headed to Drumochter to climb two Munros. Having parked the car in the layby at NN 63217 75599, they headed WSW up the track beyond the railway line to NN 60052 74653. From there, they climbed Beinn Udlamain, NN 57951 73997, via the path leading up to the ridge from the track, followed by an anticlockwise walk over to Sgairneach Mhor, NN 59900 73182. Pic shows one of our intrepid Bavarian Section demonstrating landing skills on the trig point of Sgairneach Mhor.
Heading ENE down the ridge with the dark side of The Sow of Atholl in the foreground and Munro A Bhuidheanach Bheag just left of centre on the horizon.
Looking back WNW to the first Munro Beinn Udlamain, situated left in the far background and the access route up the side of the burn on the right. They were lucky to get good weather that day as it returned back to the usual dreich, windy fare!
Next up on 20/04, AMc, JB & friends had a fantastic trip to Morocco where they climbed Mount Toubkal (13,665ft, 4167m). A total of 4 x days trekking in the stunning Atlas Mountains. What better way to start the trek than with and early morning balloon flight!
Nightlife in Marrakech’s Jemaa el-Fnaa Square.
Day 2: the trek begins. Mi Oughlad to Tizi Oussem with lunch in the mountain pass. Sleeping over in berber village. 2nd oldest in Atlas mountains.
Stunning views.
That welcome break.
Tizi Oussem over the pass and down to Imlil.
Day 3: after a night at Imlil (pictured) they trekked to the Toubkal Refuge at 10,522 feet, 3207m.
Onwards and upwards.
The view from the Toubkal Refuge.
After a night at the refuge they had a 3am start to ascend Mount Toubkal, planning to reach the summit for sunrise at 7am.
Near the top.
AMc at the top.
Fantastic views.
Back to the Toubkal Refuge for a cup of tea.
…and more stunning scenery on the way back to Imlil.
Overall a very memorable trek for AMc, JB and their mates.
Lastly on 30/04 AS & PF made a return trip to Manor Valley south of Peebles to tackle the hills that they were blown off in March; Blackhouse Heights, NT 22231 29037, Black Law, NT 21848 27520, Conscleuch Head, NT 22018 26250, and Deer Law, NT 22319 25610. Having parked at Langhaugh, NT 20263 31177, they first ascended the steep Langhaugh Hill and then onto Blackhouse Heights. Pic shows the view looking WSW; they could see Notman Law, Fifescar Knowe and Dollar Law, grouped centre pic.
They then followed the boundary fence over Black Law before turning south over Conscleuch Head and Deer Law. Pic shows PF standing near the cairn of Deer Law.
They returned back NWN along the ridge, diverting to the west over Redsike Head to access the Peebles to Megget Reservoir track. Pic shows view looking south along the track to Greenside Law, on upper right.
The view looking North up the Manor Valley with Pentland Hills on the far horizon.
Finally looking South to the head of the Manor Valley. A great day with enjoyable weather.
