The club spent a weekend at the Cairngorm Club’s hut, Muir Cottage, NO 076896, situated about 7-8km west of Braemar; https://www.cairngormclub.org.uk/muircottage/muircottage.htm. We have been there many times over the years and this occasion didn’t disappoint with many varied trips into The Gorms.
Members arriving at Muir Cottage early evening on Friday17/08.
First up, earlier on Friday16/08, MMcE fitted in a wee Fiona, Mealna letter, NO 16140 67260, on route north to Muir Cottage. Starting from the entrance to the forest about 0.5km SE of Dalnaglar Castle, NO 14964 64460, they headed NNE up through the forest to emerge on the open hill. Pic shows a fine view looking SSE to Mount Blair.

Heading back down we see Dalnaglar Castle to the south. A fine day out, followed by a short journey to Muir Cottage.
On Saturday 17/08, members AS, ARod, MM, GB, SP, EA and MMcE cycled from Muir cottage to White Bridge. Their targets were NW of that point, Beinn Bhrotain, NN 96260 92397 and Monadh mor, NN 93861 94245. Pic shows some of the group on the long track with the River Dee on the right.

…there were other hillwalkers too!

Sundews.
Back at White Bridge for the very pleasurable cycle out.
Also on Saturday DY & LY went in search of Carn na Drochaide, NO 12748 93813, via Carn na Criche, NO 11140 94470, having started from near The Punch Bowl, NO 11468 91314. Pic shows LY heading NW along the track to The Punch Bowl.
It is a charming spot.

…and they were rewarded with a fine view to the SE of Braemar and Lochnagar.
Lastly on Saturday BR & CM decided to do a low-level walk starting from the carpark at Linn of Dee, NO 06235 89821, walking over to Glen Quoich then through to Glen Lui via Clais Fhearnaig, see; https://consumerplatform.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/route/23758050/240817--connection-of-glen-quoich-and-glen-lui?lat=57.009069&lon=-3.548139&zoom=12.9686&style=Leisure&type=2d. Approaching the secluded Clais Fhearnaig from the NE.
It’s a magical gateway to the Glen Lui.
At the SW end of Clais Fhearnaig. It seems that the vegetation over the years is gradually filling in the lochans.
Just as they arrive at the track in GlenLui they almost bump into another club member, IMcM, out on a wee tour on his bike. A fine day out for all.
On Sunday18/08, MMcE drove north to the Well o' Lecht, NJ 23424 15202, to climb the Corbett Carn Mor, NJ 26569 18337. Pic shows the view NNE along the track to the derelict mine building and the western shoulder of Carn Liath on the right.
They then climbed a rough quad bike track onto the shoulder of Carn Liath. Pic shows the view looking SW to Ben Avon.
Having reached the summit of Carn Liath there was still another 2.5km of walking NNE across boggy ground to Carn Mor.
At last, onto the shoulder of Carn Mor and an easy walk to the trig, followed by a return via the same route out. A nice half day walk.
Lastly, on Sunday 18/08, a group comprising BR, IMcM, EA, MMcL, CM & MM headed out on a walk from the carpark at Linn of Quoich, NO 11657 9098, in a general NW direction up the track on the north side of the Quoich Water to the crossing at, NO 09215 95208. Pic shows the group trying to avoid wet feet at the crossing.
After a spot of lunch at the crossing they headed west along the track to the northern end of Glen Quoich through some beautiful scenery.
On the return south to the starting point, this time along the track generally to the south of the Quoich Water, part of the group split off to do the Fiona Creag Bhalg, NO 09156 91242. Pic shows the view from the NW shoulder of Creag Bhalg looking north over the Quoich Water centre pic and Beinn a Bhuird on the horizon to the right.
At the top with EA & MM. They then descended 2km ESE to the road the last 05km of which was down tediously steep ground.
A great weekend at the Muir Cottage for all.
